Owl has become a popular meme in crochet! So many lovely designs with owl theme can be found around the net. So I decided to create a realistic crochet pattern with eyelash yarn – the angry owl hat. It’s a fun, free size and unisex crochet owl hat.
Materials: (I used)
8mm and 5mm crochet hooks
Brown light weight yarn, yellow eyelash yarn, black and yellow worst weight yarn.
Note: Since this is a free size crochet hat pattern, you can choose any type of yarn and hook to make one as your wish. Please keep in mind that eyelash yarn crocheting requires a bigger hook.
Hat: 8mm crochet hook, brown light weight yarn and yellow eyelash yarn. (Hold 2 strands together)
Start with a chain of your head size. Sc into 1st chain to form a circle.
Then work all with hdc for the hat part, length should cover the ears. For the flap part, I used dc, decrease first and last sts of each row to form a triangle.
( fasten off, seam the top lines, weave in ends )
Eyes: ( make 2) 5mm crochet hook, black and yellow worst weight yarn.
R1: with black yarn, magic ring, ch3 as 1st dc, 11 dc, total 12 sts
R2: change to yellow yarn, ch3 as 1st dc, inc dc , total 24 sts
R3: ch3 as 1st dc, inc dc, (1 dc, inc) repeat 11 times, total 36 sts
R4: change to black yarn, hdc around (fasten off)
Beak: 5mm crochet hook, yellow yarn
R1: magic ring, ch3 as 1st dc, 11 dc, total 12 sts
R2: ch3 as 1st dc, inc dc, (inc dc) repeat 4 times, (tr, dtr) into 1 st, (dtr, tr) into 1 st, (inc dc) repeat 5 times (fasten off)
Attach eyes and beak on hat. Make little pom-pom at 2 sides with brown light weight yarn and yellow eyelash yarn.
Happy crocheting xD
