Do you like the “Maleficent” movie from Disney? Such a big hit this Summer and I’m so much into it.
Amazing Maleficent with powerful wings and stunning horns inspired me! So here is this fun crochet Maleficent baby hat xD
Materials: (I used)
5mm crochet hook
Worsted weight yarn: Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice Yarn (color A,B)
Note: This hat is 19” head circumference in size. I used chainless starting dc for every first dc of each round instead of ch 3. There’s another good crochet technique to use is ch 2, dc into same stitch ( counted as 1st dc). In the pattern below you’ll see I simply state dc for every first dc of each round, so just choose your best technique 🙂
Horns: (make 2) using color A yarn
These horns are abit tricky due to small parts crocheting and dark color yarn choice. Mark 1st stitch of each round when you crochet.
R1: form a magic ring, 4 sc, 4 sts
R2: (inc, sc) x 2 times, 6 sts
R3: (inc, 2 sc) x 2 times, 8 sts
R4,5: sc around, 8 sts
R6: (inc, 3 sc) x 2 times, 10 sts
R7, 8: sc around, 10 sts
R9: inc, sc, inc, 7 sc, total 12 sts
R10: sc around, 12 sts
R11: inc, 2 sc, inc, 8 sc, total 14 sts
R12: sc around, 14 sts
R13: inc, 3 sc, inc, 9 sc, total 16 sts
R14: inc, 14 sc, inc, 18 sts
R15: 16 sc, inc x 2 times, total 20 sts
R16,17,18: sc around, 20 sts (fasten off)
Stuff lightly (use a pen)
Leave long ends for sewing.
Your crocheted horn should be like this.
Hat: using yarn color A and B
Start with color A yarn
R1: form a magic ring, 10 dc, sl into 1st stitch to join, 10 sts
R2: inc dc x 10 times, sl into 1st stitch to join, 20 sts
R3: (inc, dc) x 10 times, sl into 1st stitch to join, 30 sts
R4: (inc, 2 dc) x 10 times, sl into 1st stitch to join, 40 sts
R5: (inc, 3 dc) x 10 times, sl into 1st stitch to join, 50 sts
R6: (inc, 4 dc) x 10 times, sl into 1st stitch to join, 60 sts
R7: (inc, 5 dc) x 10 times, sl into 1st stitch to join, 70 sts
R8,9: dc around, 70 sts
R10: 50 dc, 9 hdc, dc, ch 1, dc, 9 hdc, sl into 1st stitch to join, total 70 sts
R11: change to color B yarn, 50 dc, 10 hdc, dc into space, 10 hdc,
sl into 1st stitch to join, total 71 sts
R12: change to color A yarn, crochet same as R10 (fasten off)
Weave in ends.
Earflaps: using color A and B yarn
Choose your best position, crochet 1st one where your hat left off and the 2nd one on the opposite side.
Start with color A yarn
R1: 10 sc, turn
R2: 10 dc, turn
R3, 4,5: same as R2 (fasten off)
Use color B yarn to hdc around the earflaps.
Cut (color A&B) yarn of your desirable length to make braids.
Attach horns on the top of hat. This would be a fun Halloween project 🙂
