Crochet Morning star square

Crochet Morning star square

It’s been a while since I crocheted my last granny square. So I made a simple square which is cool for stash buster projects. It’s a pop-up 5 pointed star on a solid square with many possibilities. This crochet design is dedicated to a person that has been helping me a lot in my study.

Materials: ( I used )
4mm crochet hook
Light weight/ DK yarn: various colors of my leftover yarn
Scissors
Yarn needle

Abbreviations

Note: I used chainless starting dc for every first dc of each round/row instead of ch3. There’s another good crochet technique to use is ch2 then dc into same stitch ( counted as 1st dc ). In the pattern below you’ll see I simply state dc into 1st stitch for every first dc of each round/row, so just choose your best technique 🙂

This pattern can be made with any hook size, choose a yarn type that matches your hook.

Skill level: Easy

Star: Picture No.1,2,3
Form a magic ring, 10 dc into the ring (fasten off), total 10 sts.
Crochet all into front – loop stitches only *ch5, sl into 2nd ch from hook, sc into next ch, hdc into next ch, dc into last ch, skip 1 st, sl into next st* repeat ** 5 times around. Total 5 points ( fasten off )

Square bed: Picture No. 4,5,6,7,8,9

R1: Now work into back – loop stitches behind the star. Join yarn into any back – loop st, inc dc into every st around, total 20 sts, sl into 1st to join.

R2: ( Flip over ) Inc dc into 1st stitch, 3 dc across, inc dc into next st, ch2, *inc dc into next st, 3 dc across, inc dc into next st, ch2* repeat ** 3 times around, sl into 1st stitch to join.
