Crochet Sunny lace tunic

A simple and chic crochet tunic for sunny days – lacy shell stitches, sport weight, and bright color yarn. Pair it with a low belt style and you know you’re ready to flaunt!

Materials: ( I used )
4mm & 3mm crochet hooks
Sport weight yarn: light salmon ( about 250 gr for the sample – size L/ 100 gr or 256 yds per skein )

Abbreviations

Note: I used chainless starting dc for every first dc of each row/ round instead of ch 3. There’s another good crochet technique to use is ch 2, dc into the same stitch ( counted as 1st dc). In the pattern below you’ll see I simply state dc into 1st stitch for every first dc of each row/ round, so just choose your best technique 🙂

This crochet pattern is done by 2 identical front and back pieces, seam to join shoulder and body lines.

Special stitches used: 

2dc – V stitch: ( 2dc, ch1, 2dc ) into same stitch or space.

This crochet Sunny lace tunic pattern fits size XL ( chest size: 40 to 42 inches ).
( Suggestion: 4 skeins of yarn indicated )

Skill level: Easy

Gauge: 9 double crochet stitches x 4 rows = approximately 2 inches ( with materials indicated )

Tunic:

Using 4mm crochet hook ( work in rows, make 2 for front and back pieces )

R1: ch111, dc into 3rd chain from hook ( the first 2 chain doesn’t count as 1st dc ), 2dc into same ch, *ch1, skip 5 ch, 2dc – V stitch into next ch* repeat ** 17 times across, ch1, skip 5 ch, 3 dc into the last ch, turn.

R2: 3 dc into 1st st, *ch1, skip next ( 2 sts, ch1, 2 sts ), 2dc – V stitch into next ch1-space* repeat ** 17 times across, ch1, skip next ( 2 sts, ch1, 2 sts ), 3 dc into last st, turn.

R3: 3 dc into 1st st, *ch3, skip next ( 2 sts, ch1, 2 sts ), dc into next ch1-space, ch3, skip next ( 2 sts, ch1, 2 sts ), 2dc – V stitch into next ch1-space* repeat ** 8 times across, ch3, skip next ( 2 sts, ch1, 2 sts ), dc into next ch1-space, ch3, skip next ( 2 sts, ch1, 2 sts ), 3 dc into last st, turn.

R4: 3 dc into 1st st, *ch3, skip next ( 2 sts, ch3-space ), dc into next st, ch3, skip next ( ch3-space, 2 sts ), 2dc – V stitch into next ch1-space* repeat ** 8 times across, ch3, skip next ( 2 sts, ch3-space ), dc into next st, ch3, skip next ( ch3-space, 2 sts ), 3 dc into last st, turn.

R5: 3 dc into 1st st, *ch1, skip next ( 2 sts, ch3-space ), 2dc – V stitch into next st, ch1, skip next ( ch3-space, 2 sts ), 2dc – V stitch into next ch1-space* repeat ** 8 times across, ch1, skip next ( 2 sts, ch3-space ), 2dc – V stitch into next st, ch1, skip next ( ch3-space, 2 sts ), 3 dc into last st, turn.

Repeat ( from R2 to R5 ) x 12 more times until you reach R49 ( fasten off )

  • Seam shoulder lines with sc or sl ( about 22 sts )
  • Seam body lines with sc or sl ( leave 18 rows from top down for armholes, 12 to 15 rows for side slits )
  • With 3mm crochet hook, sc around neckline and armholes as border. ( fasten off, weave in ends )
