Time for Summer accessories! A wide-brimmed hat is a must to block UV rays. I’ve designed a ribbed crochet sun hat with lightweight-coated cotton yarn. This would be a quick and easy-to-crochet project to try xD

Materials: ( I used )
3.25 mm crochet hook
Light weight/ DK yarn: coated cotton white for the sample – 22 inches head circumference ย ( 100 gr or 328 yds per skein )
( Substitute yarn that you can use: raffia or waxed cotton yarn )
Yarn needle
Scissors
Ribbon
Note: I used chainless starting dc for every first dc of each row/round instead of ch 3. There’s another good crochet technique to use is ch 2, dc into same stitch ( counted as 1st dc). In the pattern below you’ll see I state dc for every first dc of each row/round, so choose your best technique ๐
This crochet simple sun hat pattern is adult size ( 22 inches head circumference, one size fits most ). If you don’t have coated cotton, use raffia or waxed cotton yarn instead, just make sure to check the gauge.

Beautiful hat however some of the avriviations for the stishes I do not no can you please tell me what ( fpdc ) mins. ..sorry
fpdc means front post double crochet. You can check the crochet abbreviations, just click on it ๐
The hat is lovely! I’ve not seen coated cotton yarn. Where do you buy it?
Hi Linda,
I got it from a local yarn store. If you can’t find coated cotton yarn online just use waxed cotton yarn or raffia yarn instead.
I love this hat. How do you get the brim to stay stiff?
The brim will stay stiff when you use coated or waxed yarn/ cord. These are ideal for crocheting bags and hats.
I”ve been looking for a great summer hat pattern to make for a friend’s birthday. This will be perfect, Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
This is so pretty! Thank you!
